Why I Chose Animas: 

Originally, I planned on going to DHS like the rest of the kids in Durango but as I started to approach my freshman year of highschool I started to hear about AHS more than ever. As I read more into it, I loved what I was reading and felt like it would be a great space for me to grow and get a valuable education. I've always ended up finding a way to make a project or trying my best to add an artistic flare to my work since I've been going to school. Especially because I grew up going to public schools, all I had seen was worksheet after worksheet and after a while it got really tiring. This is why I think a project based, hands on learning style would be perfect for me. Although hands on learning has been a struggle this year because of covid and starting off highschool through a laptop screen. Something that is also very important to me in making this decision was that public schools have always been a struggle whether that be the social aspect of fitting in or adapting to the learning style of almost every class I would attend.  These aspects of public school deeply affect the culture more than you'd think. That schooling style never felt as comfortable and assisting as the energy of Animas because majority of the teachers genuinely care about your situation and what they can personally do to first, get you to a mentally stable place to then proceed helping to pass a class. The close knit community that has been building for years and continues to build, makes it so much easier to develop strong and healthy relationships not only with your peers but with your teachers as well.
