For sophomore inspire week, I got to be apart of a mural painting group. We were working for the rainbow youth center creating something that we felt passionate about as well as keeping it within the lines of respect and comfort for the lgbtq+ community. There were many ideas floating around, but we finally settled on a space themed painting where the earth was in the center with a rocket emitting rainbow exhaust shooting off of it. I really enjoyed it because we all got to incorporate our own art styles by painting cartoon characters or designs that just resonated with us. We painted objects from large landscapes to tiny stars, the first part was quite stressful because the background looked very harsh and not well blended. Then once we started to add the final details, it came together real nicely. This experience wasn't just about the community service but rather strengthening the culture within the sophomore class considering the amount of time I spent with people I barely talked to at the beginning of the year in such a tight knit space.
