I interned at Durango Joes North Drive thru where I did a lot more than just make coffee. The first thing I did during my time here was learn about customer service and taking orders which needed to be done on the toast register. Therefore, that's where you need to make sure that the transaction goes through and a ton of other things that need to be done a specific way on the register. Then I had to memorize the abbreviations for cup marking as well as an upselling piece. Then in my final days of training I gradually got more comfortable with making drinks and memorizing the recipes. One of the most important tasks of all is cleanliness meaning that you're wiping things down whenever there's downtime or a big mess.

Most people correspond the origin of coffee to Italy when way back in the early 15th century, the earliest grown coffee was traced from Ethiopia. While evidence of coffee trees and drinking first appeared later in the 15th century. From the middle east, coffee drinking spread to Italy where espresso was created to make more appealing, foo-foo drinks. This was when coffeehouses throughout Western Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean were not only social hubs but also artistic and intellectual spaces. The coffee culture term is also used as a way to communicate the deep impact of market penetration through places selling coffee especially in the US.
These coffee plants were transported by the dutch to the east indies and the Americas. In Italy, like most of Europe, the coffee arrived in the second half of the 16th century through commercial routes of the Mediterranean sea. The first coffee house was opened in England in Cornhill, London. By 1675 there were more than 3,000 coffee houses throughout England. The French territory of Saint Domingue saw coffee cultivation starting in 1734 and by 1788, supplied half of the world’s coffee. For many decades in the 19th and 20th century, Brazil was the biggest producer of coffee. |
Day 1,2,3: Customer ServiceThe philosophy of Durango Joes…
One of the most important parts of the barista career is knowing the people who come in everyday and what drink will make their day. Some days I found this to be a good piece of motivation knowing which customers I would possibly see who had made my day before. |
