What is it? Day of the dead is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd by people especially with a Mexican heritage. It is based around respect for our loved ones who have died and appreciating them on this day.
Decorating The centerpiece of Dia de Los Muertos is an ofrenda which is usually table topped with a variety of decorations. Marigolds and their petals are the traditional flower dispersed throughout altars and the homes of celebrators. Another main centerpiece is the calavera being a colorful and intricate skull art piece. Some extra decorations for the ofrenda are candles and papel picado (colorful paper banners).
Obituario
This was for the first half of our project on representing our knowledge on Day of the Dead. The purpose was to write about one of our loved ones that had passed so I chose my grandpa.
Calavera
The second half of this project was to make a skeleton of anyone then describe their state. I chose a famous model, Bella Hadid, and the scenario she was in was that she ate half an almond then got dizzy as she was walking the runway.
This project involved digging deep into our bloodlines and ancestry, I wish I could've gotten good information on immigrants in my family that came over from Italy. But I couldn't find anyone to get all the details for me in the depth so I did Sofia Vergara, a famous actor and model in Colombia and the US. The full purpose of this project was to practice our strength in conjugating past and present terms in Spanish. I chose Sofia Vergara because I had no idea she was an immigrant and she's a great actor in some shows and movies I've seen her in. And I feel like this project opened my eyes to many people having to deal with the process of legal immigration, because so many people around us have lived in other countries and we totally look past that aspect of peoples' lives when to them it was definitely an important, defining aspect of who they are today.
This project implied writing full recipes in Spanish on a food that we wanted to make from a Spanish speaking country. The write up had to include all of the included ingredients and the instructions using the present tense commands that we've been learning about throughout the unit. I also got to use this opportunity to learn about a Spanish speaking country (Argentina) that I find quite intriguing and the specialty food that make that country what it is. I believe that this project and write up was a good project to end the year with. Not only was it writing a whole recipe in Spanish but also inform ourselves on how much Spanish food and cultures can vary based on the country they're taking place in. Conjugating based on the grammar of the sentence in Spanish 2 has been my biggest struggle this year, but I persevered and did the best I could on this write up which matters the most to me. I followed all of the requirements while adding my own twists to the project overall.
